World Alzheimer’s Day

Sept 21 is World Alzheimer's Day

September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day, an international campaign to raise dementia awareness and challenge stigma.  Around the world, someone develops dementia every three seconds.  In California, 1 in 3 seniors dies from the disease.

  • Everyone can raise awareness by learning about Alzheimer’s, recognizing the signs, and taking simple steps to lower our risk
  • People living with dementia and their care partners have an equal right to respect and inclusion, and to diagnosis, quality care and treatment
  • Governments can reduce the human and economic impact of Alzheimer’s

If you are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia: Remember, you’re not alone. It is possible to live more positively with Alzheimer’s than is often the public perception, by seeking support from Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, as well as your family and friends

If you are worried about memory loss and developing Alzheimer’s: Speak to your doctor. Alzheimer LA provides FREE care and support from seeking a diagnosis, living with the disease, Care Counseling, support groups, information, and much more.  Call us at:  844-HELP-ALZ (844-435-7259).

If you are a care partner: Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s can be challenging. It is also important to take care of your own physical and mental health needs.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

As a society: The stigma that surrounds dementia remains a global problem. Dementia is not a normal part of aging. Understanding the experiences of those affected remains important to support inclusion, empowerment and respect. Greater awareness, including recognizing the symptoms, is crucial to encourage more people to seek diagnosis and receive support.
