2024 Budget Continues to Invest in Alzheimer’s

In March, the federal Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget was passed and signed into law. The budget included major investments in research and programs that support our community. Specifically, the bill includes:

  • $100 million annual increase in funding for Alzheimer’s research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), bringing the total funding to $3.8 billion.

  • $39.5 Million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure high-risk populations, particularly Black and Latino, have access to the latest information on Alzheimer’s, including strategies for risk reduction.

  • $31.5 million for the Administration on Community Living- Alzheimer’s Disease Program which supports caregiver programs. Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is a recipient of grant funds from this program.

  • $9 million increase for the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act which seeks to increase early detection and diagnosis, reduce risk, and support caregivers. Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is a sub-grantee of BOLD grants.

As members of the LEAD Coalition, we continue to advocate for increased federal funding to strengthen dementia care, support, and science. We will continue to push for more funding in FY 2025. Read more: https://www.leadcoalition.org/our-activities-2/
